About the event

An unmissable celebration of Pipe Major Ian Dunan's contribution to the piping world. This special show revisits and reimagines the seminal Names and Places album originally recorded by the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band and folk group Eclipse First in 1990. As well as a wider celebration of Ian and the band.

A group of legacy pipers from the original recording have reunited across the Atlantic. These include Malcolm Robertson, Adrian Melvin and Gary West with Kenny Forsyth. They are joined by the 10-piece bagpipe supergroup Tryst who flex their multi-instrumental muscles on a variety of other instruments such as Mairearead Green on accordion and Steven Blake on keyboard. Original cast member Maggie MacInnes returns on Harp along with long time Tanahill Weavers’ John Martin on fiddle, Breabach’s James Lindsay on double bass, Owen Sinclair on guitar and Craig Baxter on bodhran. Drummers from the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland feature under the guidance of Gus Sicard.  The unique sound of the album is reinforced by the excellent bombarde playing of Damien Malardé. The show is under the overall musical direction of Lorne MacDougall.
